Benue State Gov’t Shuts Down Rumors Of ₦40,000 Minimum Wage Proposal

Ireporter reports that these speculations arose after a supposed meeting between Governor Hyacinth Alia and state workers, where the ₦40,000 minimum wage proposal allegedly surfaced. However, in an official statement issued on Saturday, the governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Solomon Iorpev, dismissed these claims as fake news. He clarified that the governor has been on a working visit to China since the start of the week, making such a proposal impossible.
Supporting Iorpev’s statements, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Benue State chapter secretary, Joshua Abimiku, emphasized that four minimum wage options were initially considered during negotiations, with ₦40,000 excluded from these options. He reassured workers that the agreed-upon ₦75,000 wage would be implemented soon, despite delays in October’s rollout.
