Bishop Urges Tinubu to Probe Security Chiefs Over Insecurity Allegations
The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Obiajulu Ike, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to launch an urgent probe into the alleged collaboration between security operatives and terrorist groups.
Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the second session of the 19th Synod scheduled from June 26 to 29, 2025, Bishop Ike expressed deep concern over the unrelenting wave of violence and destruction across the country, especially in Benue State and other conflict-prone areas.
He called on President Tinubu to address circulating claims that some top security and intelligence officers may be aiding terrorists and bandits.
“The president must investigate these serious allegations. If any officers are found to be complicit or negligent, they should face prosecution and be dismissed from service,” Ike stated.
The Bishop also urged the president to look into accusations that some individuals are profiting from the war on insecurity and to immediately remove underperforming service chiefs. He advocated for the deployment of drones and fighter jets, which were procured with public funds, but have reportedly not been adequately utilised.
Highlighting long-term solutions, Ike recommended the establishment of state and community policing systems to enhance grassroots security.
On the upcoming synod themed “Living By Every Word of God”, the Bishop expressed optimism that the gathering at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, China Town, Enugu, would spark spiritual revival and national reawakening. He encouraged public participation, stating that the church’s transformation could lead to wider societal change.
