The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja has dismissed the lawsuit brought by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) against Vice-President Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging double nomination in the 2023 general elections.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, the panel’s Chairman, delivered the leading judgment, asserting that an invalid nomination or double nomination does not constitute a valid ground for disqualification in the context of the presidential election, as stipulated in sections 131 and 137 of the constitution.

He further clarified that Mr. Ibrahim Masari, nominated as a placeholder by the APC for the Vice President position, was not a essential party to the petition since he was neither a candidate nor a victor in the election.
