Breaking: LIRS Gives Taxpayers Extra Time – New Deadline April 14
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced an extension for filing individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline to April 14. According to Ireporter Online, the agency had initially instructed taxpayers to submit their 2026 year of assessment returns by March 31.
In a statement issued by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications, Executive Chairman Ayodele Subair explained that the extension is intended to give taxpayers additional time to file accurately and avoid mistakes. He emphasized that complying with tax obligations should be treated as a routine responsibility.
Subair reiterated that all returns must be filed electronically via the LIRS eTax platform, as manual submissions are no longer accepted. He described the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24 hours a day. Taxpayers are also reminded to ensure their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly entered when submitting returns.
The agency encouraged individuals seeking assistance to visit any LIRS office or use the official communication channels for support.
