BREAKING: List Of 13 States, 50 Communities Likely To Witness Heavy Rainfall, Flooding Between September 13 And 17

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced that between September 13 and 17, heavy rainfall leading to potential flooding is anticipated in 13 states and 50 communities, primarily in the Northern regions.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for NEMA, made this revelation in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos.

The states and communities identified include Kano State, specifically Sumaila and Kunchi communities, as well as Kebbi State, which may experience flooding in Argungu. Additionally, communities in Katsina State such as Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, and Katsina are also expected to be affected.

Other states on the list are Niger, with communities Kontagora, Mashegu, and New Bussa, Kwara State along with the Kosubosu community.

Communities in Zamfara State including Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi, as well as Bauchi State with areas like Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas, and Misau, are also projected to face potential flooding. Taraba State, with Bali, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, Yorro, and Borno State, including Briyel, Biu, Dikwa, and Kukawa, have been listed as areas of concern.

Furthermore, Adamawa State with communities Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, and Song, as well as Yobe State with Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, Machina, and Potiskum, are expected to experience the effects.

In addition, Gombe State with Nafada and Jigawa State, including Dutse, Gumel, Gwaram, and Miga communities, are among the other areas at risk of flooding.

Farinloye also noted that due to rising water levels in Rivers Benue and Niger, communities along these two rivers, extending up to Bayelsa, are advised to take precautionary measures in the upcoming days.

He expressed appreciation to the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Central Hub, Federal Ministry of Environment Abuja, for their predictions.
