BREAKING: Massive Flood Set To Hit Nigeria As Cameroon Set To Open Lagdo Dam Situated On Benue River (DETAILS)
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning to Nigerians to prepare for an imminent surge of flood as Cameroon is expected to open the Lagdo Dam located on the Benue River.
NEMA conveyed this information through a recent statement endorsed by Ambassador Umar Salisu, the Director of African Affairs.
The agency stated that both Nigeria and Cameroon are likely to face flooding due to the upcoming release of a controlled, incremental amount of water by the authorities of the Lagdo Dam.

NEMA urged relevant organizations to raise public awareness so that residents can take measures to minimize the impact of the flood.
The statement indicated, “I am writing to inform that the Ministry has received a formal communication from the High Commission of the Republic of Cameroon, notifying us that the Cameroonian authorities have decided to open the floodgates of the Lagdo Dam on the Benue River in the upcoming days. This decision has been prompted by heavy rainfall in the dam’s catchment area in Northern Cameroon.”
“Upon the need to release water, the Lagdo Dam authorities will adopt a controlled approach, gradually releasing a small, variable quantity of water at a time. This strategy aims to mitigate and prevent potential damages along the course of the River Benue in both Cameroon and Nigeria.”
“In light of the above, it would be appreciated if your esteemed agency could take proactive measures and initiatives to mitigate potential harm. Additionally, please engage in the dissemination of information to residents living in these areas, urging them to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions,” the statement concluded.
