Breaking: NDLEA Arrests 70-Year-Old Grandfather With 57.2kg Of Cannabis In Nasarawa State (Details)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 70-year-old grandfather, Muhammadu Ibrahim, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, with 57.2kg of cannabis. This arrest is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA also announced significant drug interceptions at the Port Harcourt seaports and Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, with codeine-based syrup and ‘Loud’, a potent synthetic cannabis strain, valued at over N2.1 billion.
At the Lagos airport, operatives intercepted a consignment of ‘Loud’ packed in eight suitcases containing 320 parcels, totaling 164.50kg, worth an estimated N960 million. The substance was brought in from Canada on a KLM flight via Amsterdam. The suspect, Ughenu Nnaife Francis, admitted he was recruited to transport the drugs for a fee of N6 million.
In another operation, NDLEA operatives at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex seized a container from India containing 1,750 cartons of codeine syrup, weighing 26,250kg and valued at N1.225 billion. The container, destined for Enugu, was discovered during a joint examination by NDLEA, Customs, and other security agencies.
The statement detailed further operations across the country:
In Nasarawa State, Muhammadu Ibrahim was nabbed on May 29 with 57.2kg of cannabis in Lafia.
In Ekiti State, Suleiman Kazeem, 35, and Sunday Gbenga, 20, were arrested in Ara forest, Ara-Ekiti. NDLEA officers recovered 426kg of processed cannabis sativa and destroyed over 4,000kg on 1.66 hectares of farmland on May 30.
In Katsina State, 76 blocks of cannabis weighing 42kg were seized from a Nigerien, Suleman Audu, 29, on the Zaria-Malumfashi road on May 29.
The NDLEA continues its determined efforts to combat drug trafficking and ensure a drug-free Nigeria through collaborative and strategic operations across the nation.
