Breaking: Osun Court Forces LG Polls To Hold Amid Political Tension

Ireporteronline reports that Justice A.A. Aderibigbe delivered the ruling on Friday, declaring that the positions of chairmen, vice-chairmen, and councillors in all 30 local government areas of the state remain vacant.

The ruling was in favor of the claimant, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with OSSIEC and its chairman, Hashim Akintunde Abioye, listed as defendants.

According to the court, the previous local government election conducted on October 15, 2022, had been invalidated and nullified by a Federal High Court ruling on November 30, 2022. This decision was later upheld by the Court of Appeal on January 13, 2025.

Justice Aderibigbe ordered OSSIEC to proceed with the election as planned on February 22, 2025, ensuring that the vacant positions are filled through a democratic process.

Additionally, the court directed security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, NDLEA, Amotekun Corps, and vigilante groups, to maintain peace and provide adequate security before, during, and after the election.
