Breaking: Police Smash ‘One Chance’ Syndicate, Arrest 3 Impersonators Posing As DSS

a press briefing, noting that the suspects, along with nine others, were detained in connection to multiple “one chance” incidents around the FCT.

According to Disu, the three individuals were part of a gang that specialized in pretending to be law enforcement officers. They would target unsuspecting victims, transporting them to undisclosed locations and demanding ransom for their release.

One such case involved two victims, Jeremiah David and Amaka Humina, who reported that three men in a white Toyota Camry with license plate ABJ 221 BV stopped them while traveling from Keffi to Abuja. Claiming to be DSS officers, the suspects ejected the victims from the vehicle, drove them to a remote location, and forced them to call family members for ransom.

The suspects withdrew N400,000 from the victims’ accounts using their phones and seized various items, including an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung S20, and Samsung S8 Plus.

Following the complaint, FCT Police operatives tracked and arrested the suspects, recovering six vehicles suspected to be used in their operations, along with a locally made Beretta pistol.

In a related incident, police responded to reports of a burning Golf III vehicle used by another “one chance” gang leader in the Kubwa area. Bystanders informed police that a gang operating in the area had been caught, leading to the vehicle being set ablaze. Although three suspects managed to escape, police pursued and captured them in their hideout at Malaysia IDP Camp in Apo Mechanic Village.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to being part of the notorious syndicate, led by the now-deceased gang leader, and admitted to posing as members of various security agencies to deceive and rob unsuspecting citizens.
