BREAKING: Supreme Court Dismisses PDP Governors’ Legal Challenge To Rivers Emergency Rule

The emergency proclamation, announced earlier by the President, led to the suspension of the elected officials of Rivers State for a period of six months, a decision that sparked legal opposition from the affected PDP-led states.

In a split decision of six justices to one, the apex court held that the plaintiffs failed to establish a valid cause of action capable of invoking the Supreme Court’s original jurisdiction. Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Mohammed Idris stated that the plaintiffs were unable to show any actionable issue requiring the court to exercise its constitutional authority under its original jurisdiction.
