Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee, made remarks about the tax bill while presenting a report on the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Committee.

Rotimi, standing in for Committee Chair Boma Goodhead, triggered the confrontation by stating, “I am from Ekiti State, the first state whose National Assembly Caucus has unanimously endorsed the tax bills.” This comment sparked an immediate backlash, with lawmakers vocally opposing the statement and chanting “No, No, No!”

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas quickly intervened, urging Rotimi to stick to the subject at hand and retract his statement, labeling the tax issue as controversial. Rotimi complied, apologizing and withdrawing his comment, but the tension remained high.

Facing continued pressure from fellow lawmakers, Rotimi ultimately agreed to step down the report, asking for the Speaker’s approval to withdraw it entirely.
