The petitioner, who married Jalija in accordance with Islamic law in 1997, has five children aged 25, 22, 14, 9, and 7 from the union.

Ayuba revealed to the court that her marital issues began when her husband started a relationship with another woman, leading to his alleged impotence.

Expressing her distress, Ayuba stated, “I got married when I was 16 years old, and I have never been with any other man before my marriage.

Since two years ago, I have been having misunderstandings with him because he got a girlfriend outside our marriage.

He has not been functioning as a man, and I am tired of the situation and his attitude; I want a divorce in the interest of justice.”

In response, Jalija denied the allegations, claiming that he had no girlfriend. He mentioned that he had married another wife and was fulfilling his responsibilities.

According to him, “I married another wife, and I am performing perfectly as a man; the lady I married has one child for me; we got married in her village.”

The petitioner contested her husband’s assertion, asserting that the woman in question was indeed his girlfriend, and she was not aware of their marriage.

Judge Malam Saminu Suleiman granted the couple one week to settle the matter amicably and adjourned the case until January 17 for feedback.
