According to Ireporter Online, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy was briefly delayed at a Moroccan airport while travelling to perform at a major event during the Africa Cup of Nations. The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, disclosed that customs officials held the music star over concerns regarding his gold jewellery.

Motsepe said the issue was quickly resolved following his personal intervention. “Recently, I was called to intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened and it was resolved,” he explained during a press briefing.

Despite the initial delay, Burna Boy successfully headlined the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16, delivering a high-energy performance that thrilled fans. The concert also featured Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy and Moroccan performers Stormy and Jaylann.

In related news, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali emerged as a hero on January 17, helping the Super Eagles secure the bronze medal at the 2025 AFCON with a penalty shootout victory over Egypt. After a goalless 95 minutes marked by near misses and VAR drama, Nwabali’s two decisive saves ensured Nigeria’s podium finish.
