Chelsea dismisses January pursuit Of Osimhen
Chelsea has reportedly decided not to pursue Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the forthcoming January transfer window, despite earlier interest in the Nigerian forward…READ MORE…
The 25-year-old, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is enjoying an impressive season, having scored 12 goals in 15 appearances across all competitions, including two in last month’s Europa League win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Osimhen’s loan from Napoli came after a deterioration in his relationship with the Serie A club.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea, who are currently in second place in the Premier League, will not be chasing Osimhen this January, opting instead to focus on a long-term strategy to enhance their attacking options.
The London club made a last-minute effort to sign the prolific striker on a season-long loan last summer, even proposing an obligation to buy, but the deal did not go through, leading Osimhen to Turkey with Galatasaray.
Chelsea’s initial interest in September highlighted their need for a dependable goalscorer.
However, with a strong offensive lineup that includes Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, and Christopher Nkunku, the Blues are reportedly delaying any short-term additions to their front line.
Instead, Chelsea is said to be considering Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as a potential future target, while scouting other striker options. It appears that any reinforcements in the attacking department will be postponed until next summer.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Chelsea may see some departures in January to make space within their squad. Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are rumored to be among those likely to leave, as they have struggled to secure regular playing time under manager Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day and will finish their 2024 schedule with a match against Ipswich Town on December 30.
