Mauricio Nunes Goncalves, 38, was gunned down at a street bar in Samambaia, close to the capital city of Brasília. Witnesses reported that he was shot multiple times in the head while trying to flee, with authorities labeling the incident a “targeted” attack.

Goncalves was related to Endrick through his partner, who is the sister of the footballer’s older sister, Lavinia Sudre. Local Brazilian media have referred to him as the striker’s brother-in-law.

In response to the tragic news, Lavinia changed her Instagram profile picture to a black ribbon as a sign of mourning. She also honored Goncalves with a heartfelt tribute, sharing a photo of him and stating, “You left beautiful memories in our hearts that we will never forget.”

The murder took place early on Wednesday morning, and Goncalves’ funeral was scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. local time. As of Thursday, police were still investigating the incident, and no arrests had been made.

Witnesses reported to the police that there was no visible argument between the shooter and Goncalves prior to the attack, describing it as a cold-blooded execution.

Endrick, an 18-year-old Brazilian international, has yet to comment on the incident. The striker, who moved from Palmeiras to Real Madrid this summer for a reported fee of up to £60 million, has faced challenges in securing playing time at the Spanish club. Recent speculation suggests that he may be loaned to Real Betis for six months to gain more on-field experience.
