Court Orders Full Inquiry Into Jigawa Commissioner’s Alleged Illicit Affair

A Kano State Upper Shari’a Court has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone One, to investigate Danladi Sankara, the suspended Jigawa State commissioner, for allegations of an illicit affair with Tasleem Baba Nabegu, a married woman….CONTINUE READING

The court order follows a complaint by Tasleem’s husband, who accused Sankara of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with his wife. The controversy first emerged when the Kano State Hisbah Board apprehended Sankara last Thursday at an uncompleted building he owns in Nassarawa GRA, Kano.

Despite being granted bail with conditions to attend reconciliatory meetings, Sankara’s failure to appear on Monday led to the initiation of further legal proceedings.

Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, Commander General of the Hisbah Board, expressed regret over Sankara’s absence, stating that it impeded efforts for reconciliation in line with Islamic values. “As members of Hisbah, we are guided by Islam, which encourages reconciliation. However, Sankara’s actions suggest he’s not interested, so legal steps will be taken,” Daurawa said.

During the court hearing, the complainant’s lawyer, Haruna Magashi, presented what he claimed to be substantial evidence, including videos, phone records, and financial transactions, to support the accusations against Sankara and Tasleem.

However, Tasleem’s lawyer, Rabi’u Shuaibu Abdullahi, rejected the claims, calling them fabrications meant to ruin her reputation. He argued that she was already in the process of separating from her husband due to alleged mistreatment.

Sankara’s lawyer, Aliyu Usman Hajji, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and harmful to Sankara’s career, while also criticizing the damaging effects of social media on his client’s image.

Judge Ibrahim Sarki Yola ordered the AIG to conduct a full investigation into the allegations, ensuring that no harassment or arrests occurred during the process.
