Court Set To Decide If Kingibe Can Stay In ADC
The Federal High Court in Abuja is set to deliver a ruling today in a case seeking to prevent Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in the activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following her alleged suspension by the party’s Wuse Ward Executive in the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Peter Odo Lifu will deliver the judgment after hearing arguments on an ex parte application filed by members of the ward. The suit, filed under FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, names Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate, as the sole defendant.
The plaintiffs, Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel, acting on behalf of themselves and other ward members, through their counsel Kolawole Olowookere (SAN), asked the court to issue an interim injunction restraining Kingibe from acting as a member of the ADC pending the determination of their motion. They also requested that the senator be barred from attending party meetings, performing functions reserved for party members, or representing the party in any capacity.
In addition, the ward executives urged the court to prevent Kingibe from interfering with the administration of the ward and its statutory records. According to the plaintiffs, she was suspended on March 10 over alleged anti-party activities and breaches of the party constitution, with the suspension ratified by two-thirds of the ward executive committee.
The plaintiffs further alleged that, despite receiving notice of her suspension, Kingibe continued to act as an ADC member, holding parallel meetings, issuing press statements in the party’s name, and using her security aides to intimidate ward executives. They described her actions as a “flagrant disregard to the internal mechanism of the party.”
After considering arguments from both sides, Justice Lifu scheduled April 1 for the delivery of the ruling on whether to grant the interim orders sought by the plaintiffs.
