Court Stops Pro-Wike Rally in Bayelsa: Organizers Barred by High Court Order

The Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa has issued an order restraining supporters of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from holding a planned mega rally in the state. The rally, scheduled for April 12, 2025, was organized by the NEW Associates.

The court order was granted by Hon. Justice I.A. Uzakah after the State’s Attorney General, Biriyai Dambo, SAN, filed a Motion Ex-Parte. The suit listed the rally’s lead convener, George Turnah, Wike, the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police as defendants.

The court has set the hearing date for April 11, 2025, just a day before the proposed rally. The order followed concerns over potential disruptions and legal complications surrounding the event.
