A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Ayiri Emami, has praised the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for laying the foundation and building the APC’s political structure before the recent influx of defectors from other parties.

Speaking at the residence of Prince Francis Agbowosile in Warri, Delta State, Ayiri reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. He clarified that the agreement that led to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) integrating into the APC was limited strictly to the governor.

He emphasized that the APC would conduct open primaries for the House of Assembly, chairmanship, and councillorship positions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Ayiri also urged both longstanding APC members and newcomers—particularly those from the PDP—to prioritize the party’s interests moving forward.

He stated:

“While I was abroad, our party’s chairmanship candidate in the last local council election, Prince Francis Agbowosile, hosted a celebration for my 50th birthday. That was very thoughtful, and I truly appreciate it.

I returned to find that PDP had collapsed its leadership into the APC. We’re now united under one party. Though we’ve welcomed new members, our long-standing relationships remain intact.

We are fully committed to working in unity to support President Bola Tinubu and the governor of our state. However, there will be no automatic tickets in APC for House of Assembly seats in Delta—we will go through proper primaries.

Let me be clear: I will not disregard Chief Ovie Omo-Agege. His leadership and structure formed the bedrock of our party before these defections. Even during his governorship campaign, he was rallying support for President Tinubu as well.”
