Democracy At Risk Nigerian Senator Exposes Judiciary Corruption
Former Senator for Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has declared that Nigerian democracy cannot progress unless the judiciary undergoes a major reform to ensure it delivers true justice…….CONTINUE READING
Abbo, who was removed from office by the Appeal Court in Abuja this year after initially winning his case at the Tribunal to return to the Senate, expressed frustration over alleged corruption within the judiciary.
Speaking in Yola on Tuesday during a press interaction, Abbo alleged that vote-buying is more prominent in the courts than in actual elections.
“My mandate was hijacked in the courtroom by judicial ‘bandits’ occupying seats of judgment,” he stated. Abbo criticized what he described as rampant corruption in the judiciary and also pointed out that northern political leadership has deteriorated due to the self-interest of some leaders. He added, “You can’t blame President Bola Tinubu, because many northern leaders approached him for personal benefits rather than advocating for the region, and they’ve already reaped what belongs to the north.”
As for his 2027 governorship ambitions, Abbo mentioned he is consulting with stakeholders and will make an official announcement after his discussions are complete.
However, Abbo was unclear about whether he would run on the APC platform, accusing the party of failing to support him during his legal struggles. Referencing former President Obasanjo’s words, he remarked, “I’m just observing whether the APC crisis in Adamawa State is genuinely resolved. If yes, good; if not, then the party is finished in Adamawa.”
