The politician from Abia state implied that the South East region should be treated similarly to the other five zones in the country that have received additional ministerial positions.

Kalu expressed gratitude towards President Bola Tinubu for his role in securing his position as Deputy Speaker. He remarked, “We also discussed matters of national balance, loyalty, and unity in the country, with regard to the principles of federal character and the way appointments and projects are distributed, all with the intention of enhancing national unity.”

He added, “We are also advocating for an increase in the number of ministerial positions allocated to the South East. Like Oliver Twist, we are asking for more. Despite the challenges and our limited contributions to his victory in the last election, the President remembered us and ensured my emergence as Deputy Speaker. The region is appreciative of these gestures.”

Regarding the vacant positions designated for the South East within the National Working Committee (NWC), Kalu assured that the matter would be resolved through peaceful means.
