DIA Confirms Colonel’s Death In Abuja Attack, Investigation Underway

The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has confirmed the death of one of its senior officers, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, following an attack by armed assailants at his residence in the Phase Five Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, Abuja.

According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Monday, July 27, when the attackers stormed the officer’s home, leading to an exchange of gunfire during which Colonel Ude lost his life.

The intelligence agency disclosed that the officer’s wife, driver and security guard sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.

In a statement signed by the DIA spokesperson, J.E. Oti, the agency said security authorities have commenced a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The agency is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the incident are thoroughly investigated,” the statement noted.

The DIA described Colonel Ude as a dedicated and professional officer who made significant contributions to Nigeria’s national security efforts throughout his career.

The agency also commiserated with his family, colleagues and the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing his death as a major loss to the intelligence community.

Before his demise, Colonel Ude held several strategic positions in military intelligence and counter-terrorism operations. He reportedly took part in efforts against insurgency in the North-East and served on international intelligence assignments in Chad and France.

The late officer, who was from Enugu State, was expected to be promoted to the rank of brigadier general in 2027.

His remains were scheduled for burial on Tuesday at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja in line with Islamic funeral rites, as investigations into the attack continue.
