Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has secured the presidential ticket of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general election after emerging victorious at the party’s presidential primary held on Tuesday, May 26, in Abuja.

According to Ireporter Online, Duke clinched the nomination after polling the highest number of votes in the contest, which featured three aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer position.

The results were formally announced at the PRP national secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory by the party’s National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who disclosed that Duke scored 6,499 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Kingsley Yakubu, who garnered 2,699 votes. Yakubu had campaigned extensively on youth inclusion and economic reform across the country.

Also in the race, Dr Nnaoke Ufere, an academic and policy expert, placed third with 784 votes.

Baba-Ahmed described the primary election as peaceful, transparent, and credible, noting that it was conducted in line with the party’s internal democratic guidelines. He further stated that any aspirant dissatisfied with the outcome should seek redress through the party’s Appeal Committee, which remains open to receiving grievances in accordance with established procedures.

Donald Duke’s emergence now positions him as the PRP’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election, as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the national polls.
