state levels.

In a statement released on Friday by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA accused the police of abandoning their professional neutrality and acting as tools for political destabilization, especially against the opposition.

HURIWA highlighted two incidents that underscore the erosion of professionalism within the police force.

The first involves the occupation of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja by former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, despite his removal by a Court of Appeal ruling. According to HURIWA, Anyanwu’s continued occupation, allegedly backed by powerful figures, has been ignored by the police, who have failed to enforce the court’s decision.

The second instance concerns the police’s actions in Rivers State, where they barricaded the PDP State Secretariat following a High Court ruling that dissolved the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the party. This action has prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declared the rightful leader, from reorganizing the party.

HURIWA’s statement read:
“The police have shown blatant double standards. They turned a blind eye to Anyanwu’s illegal occupation of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja despite a valid court ruling. At the same time, they actively obstruct the enforcement of a Rivers State High Court judgment dissolving Wike’s faction of the party.”

“This selective enforcement of justice undermines the integrity of the police and raises serious doubts about their impartiality.”

HURIWA called on the police to uphold their mandate to enforce the law uniformly, emphasizing that such double standards erode public trust in the institution.
