Drama In Labour Party! Abure Booted Out By Supreme Court, Governor Otti Declares Victory(Watch Video)

Supporters of the Labour Party (LP) loyal to Senator Esther Nenadi Usman’s National Caretaker Committee burst into jubilation on Wednesday after the release of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the party’s leadership crisis………READ MORE

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State led the celebration, reading key sections of the CTC and boldly declaring that the apex court had removed Julius Abure as LP national chairman while recognizing Senator Usman as the legitimate leader.

Addressing the excited crowd, Otti emphasized that the Supreme Court’s decision was a landmark victory for internal democracy. He said the ruling reaffirmed the importance of respecting constitutional term limits within political parties.

Naija News reports that this celebration followed last Friday’s Supreme Court judgment, which overturned an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The appellate court had recognized Abure as LP chairman, but the Supreme Court ruled that the appeal court lacked the jurisdiction to do so.

In a unanimous decision, the five-member Supreme Court panel ruled that party leadership issues are internal matters and courts cannot interfere.

The court upheld the appeal filed by Senator Usman and another LP member, declaring it meritorious, while dismissing the cross-appeal from Abure’s camp as baseless.

With this ruling, the Supreme Court has drawn the curtain on the leadership war rocking the Labour Party — at least for now.
