According to documents obtained by the EFCC, Yahaya Bello allegedly paid a total of $845,852.84 to the American International School of Abuja from September 2021 onwards. The payment, purportedly made by his eldest son, Ali Bello, covered advance school fees for four family members, ensuring their education from the present class until graduation. Additionally, provisions were made for any future students to be enrolled by the family.

In response to the EFCC’s investigation into alleged money laundering activities involving Yahaya Bello, the school has deducted fees for educational services rendered to the Bello children, leaving a balance of $760,910. This remaining amount is slated for refund to an account designated by the EFCC.

This revelation follows EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede’s disclosure that Yahaya Bello withdrew $720,000 from the state coffers to prepay his child’s school fees. Olukoyede characterized this action as a misuse of public funds, emphasizing that the former governor transferred money directly from the government to a Bureau de Change for this purpose.

The EFCC’s findings shed light on alleged financial improprieties during Yahaya Bello’s tenure as governor, signaling the commencement of legal proceedings against him for the identified offenses.
