Eid-el-Fitr: Govt Declares March 1 Sallah Holiday For All Schools Nationwide
The Kano State Government under the leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced Sunday, March 1, as the official commencement date for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for all public and private primary and post-primary schools across the state.
According to a statement made available to journalists by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Education, Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, the decision is in line with the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar, which indicates that the second term will conclude on Saturday, February 28.
The statement explained that both day and boarding schools are to proceed on the Sallah break from the approved date, noting that all affected institutions across the state are expected to comply fully with the directive.
Parents and guardians, particularly those with children in boarding schools, were advised to make adequate arrangements ahead of the holiday. The ministry urged that boarding students be conveyed home by the early hours of Friday, February 27, 2026, to ensure a seamless transition into the break.
Clarifying the resumption schedule, the ministry stated that boarding school students are to return on Sunday, March 22, while day students will resume on Monday, March 23, 2026. It added that the second term will run from March 22 and conclude on Saturday, April 18.
The ministry directed all schools to strictly adhere to the approved timetable, warning that any failure to comply would be treated as a breach of government directive.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, called on parents, guardians and school authorities to cooperate with the ministry to ensure the smooth implementation of the academic calendar without disruption. He also appreciated residents for their continued support of government policies in the education sector and extended best wishes to pupils and students for a successful Ramadan fast and a peaceful Eid al-Fitr celebration.
The announcement provides clarity for thousands of pupils, students and school administrators across Kano State as preparations gather momentum for the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr festivities.
