During his brief stint as interim manager, van Nistelrooy led United to an unbeaten run, highlighted by a 3-0 Premier League win over Leicester City. His tenure also included a Carabao Cup victory against Leicester, a Europa League win over PAOK, and a draw against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Amorim’s appointment on November 1 signaled a new chapter for United, with his first game set for November 24 against Ipswich Town. While Amorim finalizes his coaching team, it’s confirmed that van Nistelrooy, along with coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel, will not remain with the club.

Manchester United’s statement on van Nistelrooy’s departure read: “Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution, and he will always be welcome at Old Trafford.”

In a conversation with The Athletic, Amorim expressed respect for van Nistelrooy, acknowledging his legendary status and contributions. Amorim stated, “He did a great job. I plan to speak with him on Monday to explain everything clearly.”

Before his return to United, van Nistelrooy held a managerial position at PSV Eindhoven, leaving just before the 2022-2023 season ended. He also held discussions with Burnley for a head coaching role. During his playing career, van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals in 219 appearances for United and later played for Real Madrid, Hamburg, and Malaga.
