Enugu Magistrate Orders Remand Of Suspect In N2m Robbery Case
An Enugu Magistrate Court sitting in the Enugu North Magisterial District has ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man, Osita Igwe, at the Enugu Correctional Centre for alleged robbery.
According to the charge sheet marked MEN/541/2024, Igwe was arraigned on Tuesday on a three-count charge involving robbery and conspiracy.
The charge read in part, “That you, Osita Igwe ‘M’, and others now at large on or about the 5th day of July 2024 at Ebeano Tunnel Road, Enugu, within the Enugu Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit a felony to wit: Robbery and thereby committed an offense punishable under section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, CAP. R11 L.F.N. 2004.”
Igwe allegedly robbed one Chijioke Mba of several valuable items, including four iPhones and other accessories valued at N2 million, on July 5, 2024, at the Ebeano Tunnel area of Enugu.
The police prosecutor, Emma Ugwu, informed the court that Igwe’s actions violated sections 6(b), 1(1), and 2(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, as well as section 315(3) of the Criminal Code (Amendment) Law of 2009.
Among the stolen items were a Samsung Fold 4 worth N1 million, N300,000 in cash, an iPhone 13 Pro Max valued at N800,000, a black iPhone cord worth N5,000, and an envelope containing $500 in cash.
Igwe pleaded not guilty when the charges were read and explained to him.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Nelson Egbo ordered Igwe’s remand in the Enugu Maximum Custodial Centre. The case was adjourned until September 20, 2024, for further hearing.
