He made this declaration on Monday during a visit to Adani in Uzo-Uwani LGA, where two brothers, Mr. Ogbonna Fidelis Anene, aged 33, and Ogbonna John Onyeka, aged 25, were brutally murdered while returning from the farm on Sunday.
Expressing sadness over the tragic incident, CP Kanayo assured the people of Adani that a specialized police team had been deployed to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He also pledged to reinforce security in the border local government area.
The CP commended Governor Peter Mbah for his commitment to rid the state of criminal elements, attributing the state’s reputation as one of the safest federating units in the country to the governor’s support and investment in security.
He urged the residents to continue their lawful activities, assuring them of the unwavering determination and cooperation of security agencies to safeguard both their homes and farmlands.
However, CP Kanayo appealed to the people to remain vigilant and provide relevant information to security agents regarding any suspicious individuals or criminal activities in their surroundings.
“The Enugu State government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, and the Nigeria Police will ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act face the full wrath of the law.
“Despite this unfortunate incident, you must continue your farming activities as it is your means of livelihood, but rest assured, we will guarantee your safety. We will apprehend these criminals.
“Enugu has become too hot for them already, but we will make it even hotter. Therefore, I urge you all to remain steadfast and trust in us for your continuous protection,” the CP asserted.
Meanwhile, the Town Union President General, Emmanuel Utazi, speaking on behalf of the community, alongside Hon. Matthew Idu and Barr. Vincent Diugwu, expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s visit and reassurances. They emphasized that Adani had always been a peaceful community and appreciated Governor Mbah’s efforts in reducing violent crimes in the state. However, they called for additional attention to Uzo-Uwani due to its vast border area and extensive farmlands.
