According to Ireporter Online, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has officially handed its senatorial ticket for Ogun Central to former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obasanjo secured the ticket on Wednesday after she was formally received into the PDP during a large political rally held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta. The event followed her recent defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), drawing a crowd of supporters, party members, and political stakeholders.

Her reception was preceded by a celebratory procession through major streets of Abeokuta, where she was accompanied by PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu and other party loyalists across Ogun Central and beyond.

Presenting the party flag, PDP State Chairman Abayomi Tella described her return as a major boost for the party and formally declared her the party’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central. He stated that the nomination was in line with the authority of the national leadership and the party’s internal consensus.

Taking the party’s oath, Obasanjo pledged allegiance to the PDP constitution, manifesto, and code of conduct, promising to prioritise the welfare of citizens above personal or sectional interests. She also emphasised her commitment to integrity, humility, and dedicated service to the people of Ogun State and Nigeria.

Explaining her defection from the APC, the former lawmaker cited alleged disrespect, betrayal, and unfair treatment by party leaders, adding that she had been let down by individuals she once supported politically. She further expressed confidence in her candidacy, insisting she remains a strong contender for the upcoming election.

Also speaking at the event, Ladi Adebutu pledged that if elected, his administration would prioritise local government autonomy, ensure prudent management of public funds, and maintain transparency in governance, vowing that public resources would not be mismanaged.
