Esan Leaders Advocate for Prince Odi Okojie as the APC’s Edo Central Senatorial Candidate write Okpebholo , Tenebe
In a heartfelt letter addressed to Khalifa Jarret Tenebe, the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State, prominent Esan leaders have made a strong case for Hon. Prince Odianosen Okojie to be granted the right of first refusal for the Edo Central Senatorial ticket in the upcoming elections.
Hon Prince Odi Okojie, the member representing Esan South-East/Esan North-East federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has demonstrated exemplary leadership, making him a household name in Esan Land. His pivotal role as a campaign catalyst in Senator Monday Okpebholo’s successful senatorial bid cemented his reputation as a grassroots mobilizer who has traversed the nook and cranny of the district.
As the Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream), Hon. Okojie has distinguished himself through stellar performance, ensuring tangible benefits for his constituents and contributing meaningfully to national development. His unwavering loyalty to the APC and its ideals is well-documented, supported by his active participation alongside his wife, celebrated actress Mercy Johnson Okojie, in strengthening the party’s grassroots appeal.
Historical Context of Edo Central Representation
Edo Central Senatorial District, encompassing five Local Government Areas (LGAs)—Igueben, Esan Central, Esan West, Esan South-East, and Esan North-East—has witnessed a dynamic political history. The district has been represented by the following senators:
️ Igueben: Senator Esangbedo (1960–1966).
Esan Central: Senator Dr. John Oriafoh (1992–1993), Senator Clifford Ordia (2015–2023), and Senator Monday Okpebholo (2023–2024).
Esan West: Senator Prof. Osunbor (1999–2007).
Esan South-East: Senator Odion Ugbesia (2007–2015).
❌ Esan North-East: No senator since inception.
Esan leaders argue that the time has come for equitable representation, with Hon. Prince Odi Okojie uniquely positioned to deliver.
Loyalty, Leadership, and Proven Stewardship
Prince Okojie’s steadfast loyalty to the APC and commitment to party supremacy have been unmatched. Alongside his wife, Mercy Johnson Okojie, they have contributed to the party’s growth and influence in Edo Central. His accomplishments as a representative, coupled with his appeal as a unifying figure in Esan Land, make him the ideal candidate to uphold APC’s values and deliver results for the district.
A Call to Action
Esan leaders urge the APC state leadership and Governor Okpebholo to recognize Hon. Prince Odi Okojie’s contributions by granting him the right of first refusal for the senatorial ticket. His grassroots popularity, legislative performance, and dedication to the APC make him the most qualified candidate to represent Edo Central in the Senate.
“We believe that with Prince Odi Okojie as our senatorial candidate, APC will not only strengthen its foothold in Edo Central but also ensure the delivery of transformative governance for our people,” the letter concludes.
