NEW EXPRESS ENTRY PRIORITY CATEGORIES

• Healthcare
• STEM
• Trades, carpenters, plumbers and contractors
• Transport
• Agriculture and agri-food

EXPEDITED CANADIAN VISITOR VISAS AND OPEN WORK PERMIT ISSUANCE
May 26th 2023 – Canada’s Federal Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser held an announcement advising Spouses of Canadian Citizens and permanent residents will now be issued visitors visas & open work permits regardless of where the Spousal Sponsorship (SS) application was filed. Previously under SS, Open Work Permits were only issued to the
Spouse if they had already filed their application & were inside Canada.

In the true sprit of Family Reunification, the Minister believes allowing Families to come together faster benefits Canada in the long run.

At the same press release, the Minister also stated a large number of current Open Work Permit (OWP) holders with expiration dates ending this year, will now be able to extend the work permit an additional 18 months.

It is estimated the amendment will impact 25,000 OWP holders already in the country. Further Details will be released June 7th 2023. Stay tuned for more details on this new directive.
