FA Cup Showdown! Manchester City Set To Clash With Liverpool In Quarter-Finals
Manchester City and Liverpool are set to face off in a headline FA Cup quarter-final following Monday’s draw for the competition’s last eight. The fixture promises another high-profile clash between the Premier League rivals, while Arsenal will travel to Southampton and Chelsea will host Port Vale.
City’s meeting with Liverpool is widely viewed as the standout tie of the quarter-final stage. Pep Guardiola’s side has already defeated Liverpool twice this season, recording a 3-0 home victory in November and a 2-1 win at Anfield in February. The upcoming encounter marks the clubs’ first FA Cup meeting since Liverpool triumphed 3-2 in the semi-finals in 2022.
Liverpool, who overcame Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 in the fifth round, have won the FA Cup eight times, with their most recent victory in 2022. Seven-time winners Manchester City advanced to the quarter-finals with a 3-1 win against Newcastle United and last lifted the trophy in 2023.
Premier League leaders Arsenal secured their place in the last eight with a 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town. Mikel Arteta’s side will now face Championship promotion hopefuls Southampton, who reached the quarter-finals after a 1-0 upset against Fulham.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were drawn to play League One side Port Vale at home, with Port Vale reaching the last eight following a shock 1-0 win over Sunderland. The remaining quarter-final sees the winner of West Ham United versus Brentford travel to face Leeds United.
The FA Cup quarter-final fixtures are as follows: Southampton vs Arsenal, Chelsea vs Port Vale, Manchester City vs Liverpool, and West Ham or Brentford vs Leeds United.
