FCT ELECTIONS SH*CKER: APC Bags AMAC, Bwari & Kwali, PDP Stuck With Only One Council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded victories in three area councils in the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elections. According to reports, the polls, conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), took place across the six area councils of the FCT, including AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Abaji, Gwagwalada, and Kuje.

So far, the APC has won in AMAC, Bwari, and Kwali, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured Gwagwalada. Results for Abaji and Kuje were still pending as of Sunday evening.

In the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), incumbent chairman Christopher Maikalangu of the APC was re-elected after polling 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate received 12,109 votes, while the PDP candidate scored 3,398 votes. A total of 2,336 votes were rejected, with 65,197 votes cast from 65,676 accredited voters out of 837,338 registered voters. “Maikalangu, having scored the highest number of votes cast, is hereby returned elected,” said the collation officer, Prof. Andrew Abue.

In Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku of the APC was declared winner with 18,466 votes. The ADC candidate polled 4,254 votes, and the Zenith Labour Party candidate scored 3,515 votes. Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, the Returning Officer, announced the results, stating that Ishaku satisfied the requirements of the law and was duly returned elected. The election was conducted across 10 wards, including Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central, and Kawu.

In Kwali Area Council, Daniel Nuhu of the APC won the chairmanship with 17,032 votes, defeating his closest rival, PDP candidate Haruna Pai, who scored 8,575 votes.

With victories in half of the councils announced so far, the APC has taken an early lead in the FCT elections. Observers are now awaiting results from Abaji and Kuje, which are expected to be released shortly.
