INEC Declares APC Candidate Winner In Rivers By-Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Napoleon Ukalikpe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the by-election for Ahoada East Constituency II in Rivers State.
According to Ireporter Online, Ukalikpe secured victory after polling 3,980 votes in the keenly contested exercise held on Saturday. The Returning Officer, Rosemary Ogu, announced the result at the commission’s office in Ahoada town, stating that the APC candidate obtained the highest number of lawful votes cast in the election. She formally returned Ukalikpe elected in line with the provisions guiding the conduct of the poll.
The by-election was organised to fill the vacant seat representing Ahoada East Constituency II in the Rivers State House of Assembly. Reports indicate that as of the time of filing this report, 86 out of the 87 polling unit results had been uploaded to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal, representing 98.85 per cent of the total results and signalling near-complete collation of the exercise.
With the official declaration, Ukalikpe is expected to assume his position in the Rivers State House of Assembly, a development seen as consolidating the APC’s presence in the constituency.
Meanwhile, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), INEC had, as of 5:55 a.m. on Sunday, uploaded 2,602 results out of the 2,822 polling units expected in Saturday’s chairmanship elections across the six area councils. The figures, obtained from the commission’s Result Viewing Portal, represent 92.2 per cent of the total polling unit outcomes at the time of assessment.
The Municipal Area Council recorded the highest volume of submissions, with 1,309 out of 1,401 polling unit results successfully uploaded, amounting to 93.43 per cent completion. Ward-level data showed significant uploads across Wuse (Ward 04) with 170 of 175 results, Gwarinpa (Ward 05) with 185 of 199, Garki (Ward 02) with 155 of 171, City Centre (Ward 01) with 135 of 151, Kabusa (Ward 03) with 139 of 148, Karu (Ward 10) with 114 of 120, Nyanya (Ward 11) with 105 of 110, Jiwa (Ward 06) with 81 of 90, Gwagwa (Ward 12) with 78 of 82, Orozo (Ward 09) with 59 of 61, Gui (Ward 07) with 56 of 60, and Karshi (Ward 08) with 32 of 34.
