Fear Grips Abuja As Nurse And Female Lawyer Found Dead Along Major Roads

According to Ireporter Online, residents of Abuja have been thrown into alarm following the discovery of two women’s bodies along key roads in the Federal Capital Territory, raising concerns over the resurgence of so-called “one-chance” attacks.

The latest incident involved the body of Princess Chigbo Mediatrix, an Abuja-based lawyer and former Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Abuja Branch, found along the Kubwa Expressway. Reports suggest she may have been a victim of violent robbery gangs that target passengers on major routes. While her employment with the FCT High Court remains unverified, documents and personal items recovered from the scene point to her professional background.

The discovery comes days after the body of Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jabi, was found by the roadside. Chuwumeziem had completed her afternoon shift on January 3, 2026, and boarded a commercial vehicle on her way home, but never arrived at her destination. Authorities are yet to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.

Residents have expressed frustration over the lack of official communication and called for swift action from the police and FCT authorities. Civil servant Ismail Umar described the silence as unacceptable, emphasizing that a transparent investigation should have been initiated immediately. Agnes Attah, another resident, urged Minister Nyesom Wike to strengthen security measures, particularly around hospitals and major transport hubs.

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives condemned the killing of Chuwumeziem, calling it an attack on healthcare workers nationwide. The association, through its FCT Council Chairman Jama Medan, urged the FCT administration to bolster security around bus stops, hospitals, and other areas frequented by staff.

The FCT Police Command has confirmed both deaths and said preliminary findings indicate a potential link to the activities of “one-chance” gangs. SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s Public Relations Officer, assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that joint patrols are being intensified across the city to apprehend the perpetrators.
