Fighting Disease Head-On: Edo Launches Strategic Group To Supercharge Routine Immunisation!

The Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency has officially inaugurated members of the Technical Working Group for the Measles-Rubella Vaccine campaign, according to iReporter Online.

The ceremony was led by Mrs. Edesili Anani Okpebholo, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, who emphasized the importance of the vaccine in protecting children and ensuring healthier futures for generations to come.

According to iReporter Online, Mrs. Okpebholo highlighted that the Edo State Government, under Governor Monday Okpebholo’s leadership, places maternal health at the core of its development agenda.

She expressed gratitude to technical partners, stakeholders, and the newly inaugurated group members, urging a strong focus on awareness campaigns to boost vaccine acceptance and shield Edo children from measles and rubella.

Furthermore, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, explained that the formation of the Technical Working Group reflects the state’s firm commitment alongside development partners to eradicate vaccine-preventable diseases and drastically reduce child mortality, iReporter Online reported.

The Executive Director of EDSPHCDA, Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia, reiterated that vaccination remains one of the most cost-effective public health measures, offering dual protection against both measles and rubella.

Also noted by iReporter Online, Dr. Efeomon Eseigbe, an EDSPHCDA Director, provided an overview of the diseases and the critical need for public awareness ahead of the vaccine rollout scheduled for 2026.

NAFDAC representative Mr. Muktar Abdullahi reassured the public of the vaccine’s safety, completing the comprehensive commitment to improving health outcomes in Edo State.
