According to Ireporter Online, the Labour Party has appointed the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, as Chairman of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for its forthcoming national convention.

The appointment was disclosed in a list released on Thursday by the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, Ginger Onwusibe, as the party intensifies preparations for its national congress.

The party had initially scheduled its national convention for April 11, 2026, but later shifted the date to April 28, 2026, with the event now set to hold in Umuahia, Abia State.

Earlier, the postponement was attributed to the need to allow broader participation in the party’s ongoing membership re-registration exercise, according to a statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Asogwa.

In a jointly signed statement by the convention secretary, Salisu Mohammad, the party explained that the appointments were made in line with its constitution and resolutions of the National Executive Council, noting that various subcommittees had been constituted to drive the success of the exercise.

Agbese, alongside members of his committee, is expected to oversee all publicity activities for the convention both locally and internationally, including press accreditation, media coordination, live broadcast management, streaming arrangements, and social media engagement. The committee will also be responsible for documentation of proceedings and broader communication strategies ahead of the event.

Other members of the subcommittee include Ekeoma Ferdinand (Alternate Chairman), Prince Okey, Dodo Okafor, Enemenka, Victoria Kalu, Agnes Lolo, Jesse Ukachukwu, Muttaqa Yushau, Lanre Fadahunsi, Ure Abazie, and Ayu Olowu, while Ken Asogwa and Ukoha Njoku will serve as Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

Agbese, who represents the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, recently defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Labour Party, citing internal party crises in Benue State while also pledging continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s policies. He has since assumed a prominent role within the Labour Party structure in the state.
