Financial Crisis? Manchester United To Lay Off 200 Employees Amid Huge Losses

Premier League giants Manchester United are set to reduce their workforce by cutting approximately 150 to 200 jobs as part of a restructuring effort aimed at improving financial stability……READ MORE

During a recent meeting, Chief Executive Omar Berrada informed employees about the decision, emphasizing the need for these job cuts to ensure long-term sustainability. This move follows last year’s workforce reduction, where around 250 employees were laid off under the leadership of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Manchester United, which had 1,140 employees as of June 30, 2024, will see an overall 39% staff reduction after these latest layoffs.

The club has faced financial struggles, recording a £27.7 million loss in the second quarter, contributing to over £300 million in losses over the past three years. In response, the management is implementing strategic changes to stabilize operations, invest in football development, and explore infrastructure improvements.

As part of the restructuring, some staff will be relocated from Old Trafford to the club’s Carrington training facility. Additionally, free meals at Old Trafford will be discontinued, a move expected to save over £1 million annually.

Despite the cost-cutting measures, Manchester United remains committed to its community initiatives, maintaining a £40,000 annual donation to the Manchester United Disabled Supporters Association. The club is also in discussions with the Manchester United Foundation about future contributions.

Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has emphasized the importance of financial discipline, suggesting that further difficult decisions may be necessary. Additionally, discussions are ongoing regarding potential large-scale infrastructure projects, such as rebuilding Old Trafford or constructing a new stadium.
