Fresh Headache For Emefiele As FG Set To Arraign Suspended Central Bank Governor For Fresh N6.9 billion Fraud (DETAILS)
The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is facing further legal complications as the federal government prepares to arraign him on fresh charges of fraud amounting to N6.9 billion.
Sources within the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja revealed that Emefiele is set to be arraigned on Thursday at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, Abuja.
This development comes after the federal government recently requested the withdrawal of the initial charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abubakar Mohammed, cited the need for additional investigations as the basis for the withdrawal request.
The suspended CBN governor, who has been in the custody of the State Security Service (SSS) since June 10, is now facing new allegations of conspiracy and procurement fraud.

He is also charged alongside a CBN staff member, Sa’adatu Yaro, and her company, April 1616 Investment Limited.
The fresh charges accuse Emefiele of providing corrupt advantages to Ms Yaro by awarding contracts worth N99.9 million to her company for the supply of cars. The transactions allegedly took place between 2018 and 2020.
The Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, under which Emefiele is charged, stipulates a five-year jail sentence upon conviction for public officers who use their positions to confer corrupt advantages.
The charges detail the alleged purchase of a fleet of vehicles, including 84 Toyota Hilux vehicles, 10 armored Mercedes Benz buses, three Toyota Landcruisers, and one Toyota Avalon car, between 2018 and 2020.
The legal proceedings against Emefiele have revealed tensions between the government and the judiciary, with multiple requests for his arrest and charges filed by different agencies.
The upcoming arraignment is set to further intensify the legal battle surrounding his case.
