Mbah Commends Tinubu’s Subsidy Removal, Launches Enugu’s Transport Overhaul

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “bold economic reforms,” particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, which he credited as a catalyst for the state’s sweeping transport infrastructure rollout.

According to iReporter Online, Mbah made this known via his official X handle on Friday, stating that the subsidy removal had unlocked critical resources that enabled Enugu to commence the first phase of its Integrated Transport Infrastructure Projects—a strategic plan aimed at transforming mobility, stimulating commerce, and restoring urban order.

The newly completed projects include five ultra-modern terminals: Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2 (for inter-state and inter-city travel), Gariki Central Station, Abakpa Central Station, and Nsukka Central Station.

Mbah said these developments were just the beginning of a wider transformation agenda.

Phase Two, he noted, will see the construction of major logistics hubs and additional terminals, including the 9th Mile Logistics Hub, Emene Central Station, Obollo Afor Inland Container Hub, Awgu Logistics Hub, and Owo Central Station.

“These milestones would not have been achievable without the courageous decision by President Tinubu to end petrol subsidies.

That singular move gave us the fiscal room to make these life-changing investments,” Mbah said.

At the commissioning ceremony held on Thursday, Mbah also unveiled the Enugu State Modern Transport System, which includes over 80 new bus shelters and the launch of the first 100 out of 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses.

According to iReporter Online, the governor described the transport infrastructure and CNG bus scheme as key components of his multimodal transport vision, which integrates road, rail, air, and water transport to create a seamless and sustainable mobility network.

He reflected on the transformation of the Holy Ghost area—once known for traffic chaos and commercial disarray—into a symbol of order, accessibility, and economic opportunity.

“From day one, we made a commitment to build a transport system that connects people and businesses while showcasing modern governance. Today’s commissioning turns that vision into a practical reality,” Mbah stated.

Mbah expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, and his team for their commitment to delivering the vision, and also lauded Tinubu’s continued support, citing the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport as another federal intervention boosting Enugu’s economic profile.

In a goodwill message, the CEO of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi (represented by Engr. Tari Mayor-Bright), praised Enugu’s strides, calling the projects a “bold step toward cleaner and more affordable transport.”
