Fubara Names Six New Permanent Secretaries In Major Rivers Civil Service Shake-Up

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved the appointment of six new permanent secretaries into the state civil service as part of efforts to strengthen administration and improve service delivery.

According to Ireporter Online, the announcement was contained in a statement released by the Rivers State Head of Service, Dr Inyingi Brown.

The newly appointed permanent secretaries are Freddy Ndigbara, Fortune Akpila, Promise Oguzie, Ibisoye Lolomari Nwankwo, Ibiyemiebara Joseph Uzoma and Mercy Dagogo Iboroma.

Dr Brown disclosed that the appointees are expected to be sworn in by Governor Fubara on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the State Executive Council Chambers.

“The newly appointed permanent secretaries are to be seated by 12 noon on Wednesday, 29th July, 2026, and will be sworn in by His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, in the State Executive Council Chambers,” the statement stated.

The development comes as the Rivers State Government continues efforts to reposition the civil service and enhance effective governance across the state.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has defended Governor Fubara’s decision to reconcile with his former political allies, saying the move was not an indication of wrongdoing.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing road projects in Abuja, Wike said politics should not be viewed through the lens of wrongdoing or punishment.

According to him, Fubara only made a decision to correct what he described as a political misstep by returning to the structure that supported his emergence as governor.

Wike said, “I don’t know what you mean by sin. In politics, there is no sin. If someone realises they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that.”

He added that recognising mistakes and making adjustments are normal aspects of political engagements.
