Gbali criticized the appointment of Ibas, saying it’s unconstitutional for one person to take over crucial government duties like budget planning and cancelling approved projects by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking in an interview on Arise News, Gbali claimed the extension of Ibas’s tenure is a deliberate move to destabilize the state and worsen the crisis.

His reaction came shortly after Ibas announced plans to draft a new state budget. This development follows a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the previously passed 2025 budget.

During a recent meeting with members of the Rivers National Assembly Caucus at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Ibas revealed that his proposed budget will target sectors like education, healthcare, social services, and infrastructure—areas also highlighted in the voided 2025 budget.

Ibas said the new budget is aimed at improving the lives of Rivers residents through focused development projects.
