Nigeria Mourns: Diamond Bank Founder  Pascal Dozie Is Dead

Dozie was a respected figure in Nigeria’s banking and telecommunications sectors. He established Diamond Bank, which eventually merged with Access Bank, and was instrumental in the success of MTN Nigeria during its early years.

Born on April 9, 1939, to Charles Dozie, a Catholic catechist, Pascal Dozie had a rich academic background. He studied at Our Lady’s School Emekuku, the Holy Ghost Seminary, and Holy Ghost College, Owerri. He later earned a B.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics and a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from City University, London.

 

His professional journey began in the UK with the National Economic Development Office. He also lectured part-time at North Western Polytechnic before moving to Uganda to work as a consulting economist. However, following the 1971 coup led by General Idi Amin, he returned to Nigeria with his family.

Dozie’s legacy lives on in the impact he made on Nigeria’s financial and telecom industries.
