With Shaibu becoming the 17th deputy governor to face impeachment during this period, attention has turned to states like Lagos and Imo, which have seen significant upheavals in their deputy governor positions.

Shaibu’s removal from office by the Edo State House of Assembly, amid allegations of perjury and divulging governmental secrets, underscores the escalating political tensions within the state, particularly regarding his perceived ambition to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.

His replacement by Omobayo Godwin, a 38-year-old, marks a pivotal moment in Edo State’s political landscape, signaling both change and uncertainty as legal battles and the upcoming governorship election loom.
