During the swearing-in ceremony of Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as his new deputy governor, Obaseki expressed his astonishment at the situation, citing Proverb 16:9 to highlight the unpredictability of circumstances.

Following the impeachment of former deputy governor Philip Shaibu by the Edo State House of Assembly on April 8, 2024, Omobayo stepped in to fill the role.

Obaseki stressed the continuity of governance, emphasizing the need to fill the vacant position promptly.

Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, he remarked, “You may make your plans, but it is God that directs your actions.”

Acknowledging the constitutional role of the legislative arm in providing checks and balances, Obaseki described the current situation as “difficult but inevitable.”

He praised Omobayo Marvellous as a competent young professional who embodies the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and participation in governance.

Obaseki expressed confidence in working with the new deputy governor in the remaining months of his term, affirming their joint dedication to fulfilling the government’s promises for the benefit of the people of Edo State.
