Beware! Shaibu Warns Obaseki’s New Appointees Of Hidden Traps In Last-Minute Appointments
Beware! Shaibu Warns Obaseki’s New Appointees Of Hidden Traps In Last-Minute AppointmentsThe reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki’s decision to appoint new members to the Edo State Civil Service Commission. In a strongly worded statement, Shaibu disassociated himself from the inauguration and warned the appointees to be cautious, referring to these positions as potential “Greek gifts” that could lead to future problems.
Shaibu expressed disappointment that Obaseki, who did not utilize the previous Civil Service Commission, is now inaugurating a new one just 27 days before the administration’s tenure ends. He highlighted that private consultants have handled responsibilities that should have been managed by the commission.
“As the Deputy Governor of Edo State, I distance myself and my office from the governor’s actions in appointing a new chairman and members of the Civil Service Commission,” Shaibu said. “It is shocking that the person selected for chairman lacks the basic qualifications, raising concerns about the integrity of the process.”
Shaibu also condemned what he described as “clandestine” and backdated appointments into the state’s civil and public service made after the last election. He urged the appointees to be cautious and warned them of potential legal implications, citing a similar case involving the Okuogbellagbe of Okpella.
“The people of Edo State should know that these appointments undermine due process, transparency, and good governance. I remain committed to upholding the law and protecting the interests of Edo State until the last day in office,” Shaibu added. “To the appointees, beware of these ‘Greek gifts’ that may lead to trouble.
