Funke Akindele Makes History As ‘Behind The Scenes’ Hits ₦512m In One Week
Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again rewritten Nollywood box office history as her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, grossed an impressive ₦512 million within its first week in cinemas.
According to industry reports, the remarkable performance makes Behind The Scenes the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025 so far, achieving the milestone in record time and reinforcing Akindele’s reputation as one of the industry’s most bankable creatives.
The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, disclosed that the production shattered five opening-week records, becoming the first Nollywood title this year to cross the ₦500 million threshold within such a short period. Cinema attendance across major locations in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa was described as overwhelming, reflecting the film’s wide appeal and strong audience reception.
In a celebratory message shared by the distribution team, the success was attributed to massive audience support, with the film also emerging as the number-one title of the weekend and the fastest Nollywood movie to reach the ₦500 million mark. The statement hailed the achievement as a testament to belief, storytelling, and unwavering fan loyalty.
The buzz surrounding the movie was heightened by its advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11, which generated strong anticipation ahead of its nationwide release on December 12. Since its debut, the film has continued to draw large crowds to cinemas nationwide.
Behind The Scenes features an ensemble cast that includes Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, among others, further boosting its commercial and critical appeal.
Akindele’s latest success builds on her impressive box office track record. Her previous release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, recorded the biggest opening weekend in Nollywood history and later became the highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time, earning over ₦1.8 billion locally alongside significant international revenue. The achievement also eclipsed her earlier milestone set by A Tribe Called Judah, which opened with ₦113 million.
With Behind The Scenes setting new standards for speed and revenue, Funke Akindele continues to define box office success in Nollywood and raise the bar for the industry at large.
