Former Senator representing Cross River South, Ita Giwa, has explained that her decision to venture into politics was driven by a quest for expression rather than personal ambition.

According to Ireporter Online, Giwa made the disclosure during an appearance on Arise Television on Saturday, where she reflected on her early life and the personal challenges that shaped her political journey. She maintained that her experiences were so profound that she doubts ten women could have endured similar circumstances.

Giwa, who served in the Senate between 1999 and 2003, emphasized that she sought a platform to be heard, not a career in politics. She remarked that her life experiences made her mature beyond her years, noting that she never truly felt young.

Recounting her upbringing, the former lawmaker revealed that her mother, a journalist actively involved in Igbo political affairs, was arrested several times. She also recalled the impact of the civil war period, stating that her family identified with the Biafran cause during the conflict.

She further shared a deeply personal tragedy involving her husband, a journalist who abandoned a promising career in the United States to contribute to national development. Despite living apart, she described the devastating moment of seeing his lifeless body in a mortuary as one of the most painful episodes of her life.

In a separate development, former Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami, has denied claims that he once described politics as haram.

As reported by Ireporter Online, Pantami, who served under the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, clarified his position during an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday. He explained that his involvement in politics is guided by a desire to promote good governance for his constituents and for Nigeria as a whole.
